Belgian Pralines

A little bit of history

Bordered by Georgia, to the west, by North Carolina to the south and by the Atlantic Ocean to the east, there are close to 5 million residents that live across more than 80 000 km² of land. There are numerous lakes that cover more than a 1 700 km² of land but you can also expect to find many forests in this region as well.

From the beginning, both North and South Carolina were one single state. But, too many disparities led to their separation. It was in this way that South Carolina gained its independence face to face with Great Britain in 1776.

The American Civil War, which took place between 1861 and 1865 started in South Carolina with the Fort Sumter attack.

What is there to do in South Carolina?

The city of Charleston is notably known for the Spoleto Festival, which is held every year in the spring. It is considered to be the most important arts festival in the United States! This event regroups more than 100 representations of opera, jazz, theatre, dance and music. It attracts artists from all over the world!
Myrtle Beach is one of the popular seaside destinations in the United States. It is very chic and is known for its 100 km of white sand beaches and its many golf courses. There are also quite a few shopping malls, theatres, bars and places to hang out in every possible shape or form that is sure to please any kind of tourist!
In regards to cuisine, you will find green cabbage, seafood and typical Southern American dishes in this state. The ‘Hoppin John,’ is a dish made with rice, onions, bacon and peas. There is also ‘Shrimps and Grits’ which also makes up for and integral part of the country’s culinary panorama. Something worth mentioning is the fact that the peach is the state’s symbolic fruit! Even if our chocolate experts haven’t come up with a recipe that incorporates peaches, it is without a doubt that their other fruit-based recipes will ravish chocolate lovers in South Carolina. Let’s face it, there’s never a bad time to enjoy a praline!
